During this experience, you will visit important cultural sites including the Igongo Cultural Centre, Biharwe Eclipse Monument, Ankole royal sites, the King’s Palace, Lake Mburo National Park, and traditional homesteads where you will learn about local traditions, farming, and cultural practices.
The Ankole Kingdom, also known as Nkore, is one of Uganda’s historic kingdoms with a rich heritage dating back several centuries. The kingdom is especially known for its famous long-horned cattle, traditional leadership, and unique cultural identity.
Day 1: Transfer to Mbarara and Lake Mburo Experience
After an early breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up and begin your journey to Mbarara, the centre of the Ankole Kingdom in western Uganda.
Along the way, enjoy a stopover at the Uganda Equator Monument for memorable photographs before continuing towards Lake Mburo National Park.
Upon arrival, enjoy a scenic wildlife experience with an afternoon game drive or boat cruise where you may spot zebras, impalas, buffaloes, waterbucks, and other wildlife species.
Later, continue to Igongo Cultural Centre and Country Resort, where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Full-Day Ankole Kingdom Cultural Experience
After breakfast, begin your exploration of Ankole’s rich cultural heritage.
Your first visit will be Biharwe Hill, home to the famous Eclipse Monument, an important historical site that tells the story of Ankole’s past.
Afterwards, visit the Igongo Cultural Centre and Museum, where you will discover traditional artefacts, historical stories, and exhibits showcasing the lifestyle and traditions of the Banyankole people.
After lunch, continue to the Ankole Royal Tombs, where you will learn about the history of Ankole kings and the royal family.
In the evening, enjoy traditional cultural performances, including music and dance, while experiencing the warmth and hospitality of the local community.
Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 3: Ankole Homestead Visit, King’s Palace and Return to Kampala
After breakfast, continue your cultural journey with a visit to the Ankole King’s Palace, where you will learn about traditional leadership and the history of the kingdom.
Later, explore nearby Ankole homesteads and experience authentic community life. Learn about traditional farming methods, local food preparation, and cultural practices, including local brewing traditions.
After lunch, begin your return journey to Kampala, carrying unforgettable memories of Ankole’s traditions, history, and people.
Dinner and overnight at your booked hotel.
Departure Day
After a relaxed breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
