3 Days Mgahinga Mountain Hiking Experience

Day 1: Transfer to Kisoro Town

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Kisoro town, located in southwestern Uganda near the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The scenic drive takes approximately 8–9 hours, passing through beautiful countryside landscapes, local communities, and Uganda’s rolling hills. Along the way, you will enjoy views of rural Uganda before arriving in Kisoro, the gateway to Mgahinga National Park hiking adventures.

Upon arrival, you will check into your accommodation where you can relax, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next day’s volcanic mountain hiking experience.

Day 2: Mount Sabyinyo Hiking Adventure

After an early breakfast, you will depart for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where your Mount Sabyinyo hiking tour begins.

Before starting the climb, you will receive a briefing from experienced park guides who will explain the hiking route, safety guidelines, and what to expect during the adventure.

Mount Sabyinyo, standing at approximately 3,669 metres above sea level, is one of the most challenging and rewarding volcano hikes in Uganda. The trail takes you through different vegetation zones, including bamboo forests and high-altitude landscapes, offering opportunities to experience the unique beauty of the Virunga Mountains.

Although the hike requires physical effort, every step is rewarded with spectacular views and an unforgettable feeling of reaching one of Uganda’s most iconic volcanic peaks.

Furthermore, at the summit, hikers can enjoy the rare experience of standing where the borders of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo meet.

After completing the hike, you will descend back to the starting point where your guide will transfer you to your accommodation for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 3: Return Journey to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, you will begin your return journey to Kampala or Entebbe.

The drive takes approximately 8–9 hours depending on traffic and your final destination. However, the journey provides another opportunity to enjoy Uganda’s beautiful countryside scenery.

Finally, depending on your departure flight schedule, you may relax in Entebbe before continuing to the airport for your flight back home.
