Volcanoes National Park

The park is the oldest in Africa. Its located 160k msq north of Rwanda and was gazetted to protect the mountain gorillas that were facing extinction threat due to poaching. The park is strategically located and this gives a chance to visitors to visit the area at a high rate. It’s located in musanze and accessible by public means. Volcano is known as the park that protects the rare and remaining mountain gorillas in the whole world.

Activities in the park include; gorilla tacking, golden monkey tracking,hiking the karisimbi volcanoes, musanze cave tours, visiting the twin lakes of burera and ruhondo, iby’Iwacu cultural village and visiting dianfossey tomb. The park is rich in flora and fauna. Animals found in the park include; chimpanzees, lions, topi, elephants and zebras. It also boasts of a variety of bird species like shoe bill stork.

Volcanoes National Park also boasts of a scenic and beautiful environment enabling and attracting more tourists to the land of 1000 hills. Volcanoes can be accessed by public means from Kigali and also from Uganda via kisoro, burera and to Ruhengeri.
